The Pains of Being Pure at Heart "Say No to Love *** Sold Out ***" CD single $5 (L&L064)

The best Pains single yet — a shimmering, affecting slice of pure pop with the band's infinite charms working double-time. The Australian CD release of Say No To Love has been remastered from the US and UK vinyl editions, and adds the bonus exclusive track "I Wanna Go All the Way", an infectious burst of fizzy joy recorded as a demo early in the band's life, back in 2007.

1) Say No to Love
2) Lost Saint
3) I Wanna Go All the Way (demo)

"The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are playing out the classic shoegaze career arc. Start off with a shambling but promising first EP, make a near-brilliant first album, release a danceable single, then slick up your sound in a bid for mainstream acceptance. “Say No to Love” is that slicked up single, and luckily it holds on to enough of the noise, melody and drive that the Pains have delivered so far to keep it from being the first step on the inevitable downside of the arc. It’s actually a pretty powerful song that sounds like Ride circa Going Blank Again. Most importantly for our purposes here, it sounds like a slice of watermelon tastes, feels like the wind blowing through your hair as you ride down a back street on your way to the beach, and makes the melancholy of resigned heartbreak seem like exactly the right mood for this summer."
